    Happy New Year!

We are back to start the new year off with a bang! We have some great plans in the works and are getting set to launch a new community partnership as well as our line of custom Wakeboard FreshFaces! (And adding to our Custom Snowboard and Skateboard designs too!!)

Something that you definitely want to watch out for is our soon to be release public design forum. We’re tweaking that in the next few weeks; you’ll be able to submit custom designs to be showcased and rated in a public format! Start your creative gears and get ready to submit!! We’ll be showing off some really neat decals, skateboard designs, wakeboard designs and of course custom snowboard designs too!

    As it is Monday, I’d like to introduce to you our newest member of the FreshPow! Community;

    Jessica Miller, Skier - 28, OH/USA jessicamiller.jpg

    1. What is your summer sport? Rowing
    2. Favorite thing to watch on screen (TV or Movie):
    Psych (tv), Out Cold (movie)
    3. 5 songs on your playlist:
Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey; Wasting Time and If I Had Eyes by Jack Johnson, Anytime by Eve 6, Home for a Rest by Great Big Sea
    4. When did you start skiing? What inspired you to start?
I started skiing in 1995 on a trip with my youth group. My mom went with me (she’s been skiing most of her life) and I went down the hill, hell bent for leather and never looked back. My technique has improved since then, and I now have a healthy sense of fear, but there’s no feeling in the world like making first tracks while the sun is still making it’s way up the mountain.
    5. Most frequented riding spot?
A group of friends and I try to ski a new location every season, but for local skiing we head up to CaberFae Peaks in Cadillac, Michigan. They throw a monster St. Patty’s Day shindig. And the hill’s not much to sneeze at, but the third floor bar just off the terrain park at Alpine Peaks in Michigan is fun too.
    6. Favorite move/trick:
    Not falling
    7. Your skiing style:
    Not falling
    8. What did you have for breakfast?
Trip breakfast is usually bacon, eggs and toast.
    9.
If you could ski or ride anywhere in the world, where would it be? I’d love to go to Chile or Reykjavik.
    10. Are you sponsored?
    Not likely
    11. What does your Monday to Friday, 9 - 5 look like? I work in marketing. If it’s a blue bird day, I might be out sick.
    12. Describe your ideal day of riding:
Hit the hill early before people have had a chance to push all the good stuff to the bottom of the hill, check out all the trails and pick my faves. Catch up with the crew for a warm-up and lunch and back at it until they kick us out. Love night skiing after dinner provided anyone can stay motivated!
    13. Do you have a favoured Pro or Amateur?
Picabo Street. She’s a tremendous athelete and a great, gracious competitor. And my mom used to call me Picabo when I was younger.
    14. What is your all-time favourite dessert?
    Cheesecake.
    15. In your opinion, what is the worst trend/fad for your
sport? Skiing with an MP3 player. I love to hear the sound my skiis make as the slide over the snow.
    16. How do you prepare for a day of riding?
    Stretching and a bloody mary.
    17. What is your “must-have” for hill-side eats?
    chili and crackers.
    18. What item in your gear bag can you NOT live without?
    Chapstick
    19. What do you do “après-board”?
cards and drinks with friends, or a night on the town
    20. What was your most embarrassing / memorable
moment on the hill? My friend and I we racing down the hill and I was trying to catch up to her. She hit a jump she wasn’t expecting and yardsaled. I hit the jump right on her heels and had to lay horizontal in the air to avoid hitting her when she fell. I landed hard on my hip and limped to the lodge for a time-out.

Thanks Jessica for divulging your preparation secrets; LOVE the Bloody Mary idea…
Don’t forget, if you want to tell us your story, we’d love to hear it!! Contact us and we’ll introduce you to the FreshPow! Community too!

So, because it’s Monday, we would like to introduce to you to Dave Clarke, our newest member of the FreshPow! Community!

    Dave Clarke, Skier, Snowshoer - 25, PA/USA

    1. What is your summer sport? Soccer, Hiking, Basketball, Climbing
    2. Favorite thing to watch on screen (TV or Movie): The NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament
    3. 5 songs on your playlist: F**kin in the Bushes (Oasis), Radio (Rancid), Superman (Goldfinger), Daddy’s Cup (Drive-By Truckers), Constructive Summer (The Hold Steady)
    4. When did you start skiing? What inspired you to start? 1986 – Required by my dad.  I use the word “required” in the kindest way possible.
    5. Most frequented riding spot? Snowmass / Aspen / Aspen Highlands
    6. Favorite move/trick: Spread Eagle (circa 1978)
    7. Your riding style: Free
    8. What did you have for breakfast? Oatmeal
    9. If you could ski or ride anywhere in the world, where would it be? Jackson Hole
    10. Are you sponsored? Nope
    11. What does your Monday to Friday, 9 - 5 look like? In an office – I know, I know…
    12. Describe your ideal day of riding: Waist deep through glades
    13. Do you have a favoured Pro or Amateur? My uncle, Jim Clarke (I guess that counts as an amateur)… he’s famous for his “Stalin-esque” wake-up calls at 4:00 AM to make first tracks: “Get the f**k outta bed! NOW.”  Definitely learned it from his dad/my grandfather.
    14. What is your all-time favourite dessert? Washington Cherry Crunch (think cherry pie but in casserole form)
    15. In your opinion, what is the worst trend/fad for your sport? The sheer overhyped nature of the fashion – no one will admit it, but everyone sizes up jackets, skis, pants, helmets, packs, etc.  Glen Plake had the right idea: ski naked.
    16. How do you prepare for a day of riding? Not a whole lot… I could never understand how people can go out boozing til 3:00 am and even attempt to ski the next day
    17. What is your “must-have” for hill-side eats? Oddly enough, PopTarts – I like the texture when they freeze.
    18. What item in your gear bag can you NOT live without? iPod Shuffle – the flash memory takes minimal battery power and therefore doesn’t fade as fast as a regular iPod (whose battery is really susceptible to cold).
    19. What do you do “après-board”? Lagers.
    20. What was your most embarrassing / memorable moment on the hill? First run of the day with my girlfriend on her first trip to Snowmass… lowlight in the morning… I couldn’t see an oncoming depression in the knee deep powder… hit it… wasn’t ready for it… total backflip (unintentional)… land on shoulder/ribs/neck… full yard sale.

Thanks Dave for sharing your fun times!! Welcome to the FreshPow! Community!

Sabre + Burton = Equality on the hills?!

    Friday, October 31st, 2008

So, I am hoping that you’ve heard about the broo-haha with Burton and their “controversial” LOVE line of boards; 80’s era Playboy Models on the topsheet of their snowboard - MAD Chaos!!

Bans at resorts, public protests, stress! Comeon people!! Why!? All Burton wanted was some press and they got it! SEX sells and they knew that! You don’t think for a second in that development meeting the whole design crew knew what was going to happen?! Absolutely, and they got what they wanted.

Thanks to Shayboarder for bringing this to my attention, and thanks to TransWorld for publishing it, but it seems as though Sabre has leveled the playing field (or has attempted to) with their new line-up of scantilly clad gentlemen.  Apparently though, the public seems to be missing the actual design of the board and is more focused on the grooming (or lack thereof) of the models on the boards.. I guess they weren’t in the same strategy meeting as the Burton Team..

Check it out and see for yourself.. (be aware though, the pics are revealing!)

Transworld - Sabre Unveils ‘Dudes on the Mountain’ Graphics (SABRE)

Shayboarder - Don’t Blame the Graphics (BURTON)

The only thing that burns me is that we didn’t get to publically vote on the models! ;)
