    Stretchin’ it out!

Last modified on 2009-03-26 20:41:26 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

My long lost days of cross country running back in high school, taught me to always “stretch it out” before and after a run. Since then, I’ve not continued running but have always tried to keep stretching before and after mountain biking and snowboarding. Recently we’ve had a chance to review a great video sent to us from Peggy Hall called Yoga for Board Sports

    twisting-chair1.jpg

We found this video easy to watch and follow. It is accessible for someone like me who has never done yoga - but always thought “ya, maybe I’ll give it a shot sometime”. This video has inspired me to start following this before and after ride routine (or parts of it at least).

What I like is that this is yoga designed to be exclusive for board sports and the stretches are tailored to mimic those you would actually be doing while in action. The segments are demonstrated to help you see how the move(position) would come to life while participating in any board sport.

It was helpful to see male and female demonstrations, so you are getting to see varied adaptations of the description.  There are also visuals of surfing and snowboarding(which I especially liked) in between the demonstrations, which helped further the connection.

Peggy’s voice is calm, fluid, consistent, clear and informative with background music that is relaxing and not at all a distraction. She explains that yoga is not about executing the perfect pose, rather-becoming more aware and taking from the stretches what you need to improve your riding. Another important point being that you may think you’re not flexible enough to do it, but don’t be concerned-it’s about becoming more focused on your sport.

Yoga for Board Sports is a consistent way to keep yourself in shape when there is down time between trips to the hill, trails or water. I can also see the benefit of using this yoga to stay in shape and get back into a routine after an injury.

Yoga for Board Sports is a regular routine that keeps your muscles fluid for jumps, tricks and boarding; overall it’s awesome!

    Stay Limber!

REVIEW: Match your headphones to your equipment with iFrogz

    Hey what’s goin’ on!?

Hope you’re making the most of what we have left of winter. We’re hoping to get out spring riding soon-if it ever warms up around here!

In the meantime, I’ve been working inside on the computer and tuning out the fam with these cool new headphones that ifrogz sent us!

The ifrogz company offers the Ear Pollution line of customisable headphones. They have been awesome and offered us a chance to design and order a pair of Nerve Pipes for review!

The process for customising the Nerve Pipes online was very interactive and a lot of fun. There are 6 component pieces to customise with colour and artwork; the headband, sidepieces, hinges, speakers, ear cushions and outer speaker area.

Being a graphic designer, I was very impressed with all the potential colour and texture combinations that are possible. I’m also a terrible decision maker and I spent much time perfecting a headphone design; tweaking, adding, removing-then starting from scratch to get the perfect pair happening!

Once submitting my final order, the Nerve Pipes arrived here very quickly and I was impressed right away. The packaging was nice (and very easy to open!) and my headphones inside matched the high quality image on the website-to a T! They are very stylin’ (as you can see), fold up into a compact size and sound fantastic!

    Thanks ifrogz!

Check out their website to pick a headphone model and customise you own pair today!

    See you later,

    Tim

    REVIEW: Orage Thrilla Jacket

Last modified on 2009-01-24 02:06:56 GMT. 0 comments. Top.

    026-1.jpg

    Hey!

Last weekend, we had a great time snowboarding at one of our local hills. The weather was phenomenal! Warm, but still cold enough that there were big fat flakes falling from the sky!

I was lucky enough to have Orage send me a Thrilla Jacket for review. This was fantastic, because my previous outerwear was kind of bulky and without waterproofing after years of riding.
I tested the Thrilla Jacket at the hill in the midst of mild conditions with heavy snowfall - and then the weather switched to windy and cold late in the day.

    timjacket.jpg

I was able to maintain a comfortable core temperature all day with just a fleece and long sleeve underneath - and the jacket was able to keep me dry with it’s waterproofing features.

I had a full range of motion at all times and the outer material is very pliable and form fitting. Also, I was able to use each and every pocket! I kept my wallet up front and the deep interior pockets were great for holding an mp3 player with headphones on the left and camera and goggles in the pouch on the other. Honorable mention goes to the lift pass hanger which was very convenient.

The style of the jacket is great too; I can easily wear it even when I’m not boarding and still have all the handy perks of the Thrilla Jacket!

    Thanks again, Orage!

Tim received a really sweet jacket from Orage the other day and will be wearing it everywhere (especially the hills) to give you an honest review of what it’s like!

We also have formed a few key friendships with people that have access to reviews that we don’t (yet!).

One of those People is Shannon a.k.a Shayboarder. Shay does reviews on numerous accessories and boards throughout the season and writes an honest review, complete with pics and links; all for your information and enjoyment.

When we contact her to be able to provide her reviews with you, she was very pleased to help spread the word.. so without further ado… here is FreshPow!’s first ever review.. as reviewed by Shayboarder!

    The Young Entrepreneur Blog

As a dedicated boarder or skater, I’m sure one of your goals each year is to do more of what you do best; tricks, jumps, rails, waves etc. The only way to accomplish this is to spend more time at the park or hill (or lake if you’re a water lover!) If only that pesky job wasn’t in the way, it would be easy right? Well, why don’t you start your own thing?

A staggering number of people are doing just that - taking their career matters into their own hands, and I bet you they are on the hills as I write this!!! I found this resource for Entrepreneurs - It’s AWESOME!!! the Young Entrepreneur Blog (http://www.youngentrepreneur.com/blog).

A superb resource, I don’t really suggest starting anywhere in particular (hit all the spots!), but make sure you check out the SEO review section (under internet marketing)- a different website is reviewed and then offered ways to improve their web ranking (so cool!). Another great spot is the Modeling Masters section - profiles on todays (and yesterdays) greatest business people, and their advice on how to succeed in the wacky world of entrepreneurship!

Make sure you sign up to the Young Entrepreneur forum and then you can post questions, ask for feedback, offer your own advice and experience and become a part of this growing phenom of Youth Executives.

Promise me though, that once you’ve come up with your idea, and started your business, you’ll come back to FreshPow! and have a custom FreshFace done up to pimp out your new venture in style! We’ll even help you celebrate by giving you 10% off a custom (a.k.a your logo) FreshFace! (p.s. Proof of business registration required.)

Cheers to more time on the hills or in the parks (or in the water!)
